Is Fuller going to mess up on this one?

I suspect not.

Looking forward to seeing the "new" Phantom in Gun Wharf Quays, rigged and ready for action.

If he gets it right - I have him in my top 10 runners for RB.

so jon who do you think(in your class are your main competitors?) my view on it is the 28ft bat boat and the big rib(max walkers old one i think) ,but they are both running outboards,so there might be a reliabilty issue with them running such long hours every day unless they have a shed load of spare power heads

Yeah, obviously the two 4 litre boats are going to be head & shoulders above us top speed wise, no doubt at all.
OB reliability could well be an issue, but when I stop and ask myself if I'd rather be in any of the other RB4 entries boats rather than ours, the thing that mekes me say no, is the knowledge that the sheer effort required to drive a manual steering twin OB boat at max, or near max, for any length of time is emense, mainly because of the frantic nature of the beast and massive physical effort needed to wrestle the wheel to keep it on the keel. day 3 of 200 mile legs would leave me dead to the world. In comparison, our armchair 32 footer, with suspension seats, power steering etc will be like a Limmo, if a little slow....Guess we'll have to wait n see.

The other major competition is the Goldfish rib and that nob Lemmer in the twin Yanmar rib, and of course, not forgetting the dark horse Gordon Compton, who'll plow on through anything for as long as it takes!

The B28 has the wrong motors, otherwise I think it could be right up there.
I looked into buying that boat myself.

Limber Question

Before I fall into the pig pit Jon,that limber stbd side of keel longl in what looks like the aft face of a tank,is that to drain from forward, and if so where is the W.T. integrity or fire bhd.Wouldn`t want you sinking like a stone or getting blown up like a rocket.Sounds like all the unforeseen nasties are beginning to strangle the progress.Keep hanging in there matey.

Graham, yes indeed that is a limber hole, it connects the sealed area beneath the fuel tanks with the engine compartment, so that when our tank splits we can see the fuel in the bilge. As the fuel is diesel, there's little chance of the rocket explosion.

Ignoring the facts that that are bloody expensive and as rare as rocking horse sh1t

they would have been over the cc limit according to the rules at the time we made our decission

that said if anyone would like to loan us 4 foc we would consider changing to them

When I looked at it, a pair of 2.5xs's would have been perfect, reliable, torquey power, just inside the RB4 class. Admittedly they were ££££££.
XR2's just don't seem to last unless babied, although granted are easy enough to rebuild overnight. I hope I'm wrong though, would be great to see the boat at the front.

2.5's were also over the class cc limit at the time we decided.
