1) Its Not a hoplessly optomistic project - Its a "Challanging" Project
2) It wont.... I'm Still under my projected budget even with the new drives..
3) I did........ - Having considered all of the advice offered - but there were extenuating circumstances......

4)Big offshore racers are a costly pastime, and like an old porsche, or ferrari, the cost of a given part is dear, whether it's for an old low value one, or a new 200k jobbie, it's the way of the world mate.
|
1) I’m not Jon, But I do object to being told it's "just a load of old bits nailed together haphazardly for the purposes of unfairly winning a bet." She isn't..
2) It Isn't....
3) I haven’t – I’m still under budget.... Because I’ve been canny, Bought the Scarab for $8000 and Shipping Cost $3,500 with money I had banked in the USA @ $2=£1 so the Scarab cost me £5,750 add Vat & Import Duty @ £1,012.00 the total package set me back £6,762.00, I’ve sold the drives from her for £1000.00 = £5,762.00, the inner shields for £500.00 = 5,262.00, the Trim Tabs for £250.00 = £5,012.00, I’ve now got a yard Trailer for nothing (say nominal figure of £500.00) = £4,512.00, Sold the Hull for £1250.00 = £3,262.00 So the Engines cost me £3,262.00 for the pair New Drives are going to cost south of £14,000.00 for the pair (I have done a deal with the Manufacturer) and I’ve just had an offer of £4,000.00 each for the old No. 3 Drives from Germany so that makes the New Drives £6,000.00 Net. So cost of Boat (D2S) + Scarab + Drives (Net) + New and reconditioned parts + Labour + New Paint + New Bolster Seats = £29,612.00 Inc Contingency... against a budget of £30,000.00
4) I know that Jon, you told me, Tony told me, Mrs P told Me in fact nearly everyone on here told me - but I couldn’t stand by and see her Rot away to nothing - Its an adventure for me and the fulfilment of an ambition for John regarding his late father..

Jimmy has answered this himself.....
But her last owner spent nearly £40K on purchasing her and getting her to a recon Hull... add that to my budget of £30K and that getting close to £70K for the package....

Matt, It all followed a chat with John H him saying about his Dads only unaccomplished wish to compete in the CTC and seeing Her Rotting at Drivers - So in a way it/She has realised both of our Dreams, John's re his Dad and me for "One Last Big Adventure"
And as Mike Lloyd says "Nothing can stop an idea when it blends with passion."

Keep it up Martin. It's pretty obvious this kinda thing is never going to be cheap or easy, but it is rewarding. I'm glad to see you've got the commitment to push to finish her instead of just giving up as so many other people would. You know it'll all be worth it in the end!

Well... I've just found with the cat that some people just love to tell me how stupid i'm being and that it's a total waste of money. Some people also refuse to think outside the box when you're trying to think of an alternative way of doing something. It really gets my goat, and can get me quite down about the project sometimes.
Seems much the same with you, but i know how you feel on this one. No matter how much you stand to lose from getting her sorted, you have a passion which pushes you to carry on and not give up, no matter what. As far as i can see, not many people possess that skill!
Best of luck with everything!
James

.....to help? you are joking right? you only listen to the advice you want to hear. That's the only thing that's been consistant throughout this 'project'.

I don't think anyone has been knocking / doubting particularly beyond a bit of banter, in fact this afternoons posts were becoming productive in fact finding / potential advice.
I'll set my stool out.......I'm 100% behind Martin with this project and will do anything I can to help him achieve his dream. I do however reserve my right to take the piss out of him mercilessly as he no doubt reserves on me
Right back to the important stuff, So you've ordered drives and potentially sold the old?
Did you go the prs3 route? You know you can't sell the whole drive?
Jon made a valid post about the transom condition, has it been checked?
If new transom will you look to reduce the centres? Will you look to reduce them anyway?
What are they hooking up through? Is there any offset?
Come on man we need answers and don't give us that old blarney that you've been busy working all day

Jon, Your advice and that of Tony and Jimmy has been a constant source of well founded, Common sense, technical and Racing expertise and personally I cannot thank you enough for your contributions. I have always had a long way to fall since I started work in a Market in Roman Road, Who would have thought a Barrow Boy would Race Rally Cars, Retire at 40, Not have a mortgage, and own the Most Famous Historic Powerboat in the world, not me in my wildest dreams standing behind that market stall on a cold and wet saturday. But now I can, so I will, and if the fall is big then show me the edge of the parapit - Jon talk is cheap and as you said in one acidic post "I love the written word" ive corrected your spelling....
So bring it on !
Post 384 Planatec - By Yourself: "these pages will be here for all to read long after the pudding has been eaten."
Post 372 Planatc - By Yourself: "Lets see how it, and your rating on the 'Utterly Useless' scale pans out"
Post 380 Planatec - By Yourself: "I'm not wound up at all, and am looking forward to all of this more than you can begin to imagine.
Oh how I love the writen word."
