Snoopy Alive And Well

The custodian of Maltese Magnum advises that `Snoopy` is on the IOW.This may be old hat to the corkheads, but for £15,000 you would obtain a piece of history.

1970 Jake Trotter - 5th in class (Bahamas 500)

1971 George Green - 7th in class (Solent 70)
ret Needles
3rd in class CTC (The rough one),8th OA (10 Fin)
2nd in class (Round IOW)
2nd in class (Daily Telegraph Race)
ret Leman GP (Switz)
1st OA (Skagerak) only one to finish out of 12 starters.
1st in class (Deauville,Dauphin D`or,Viareggio-Bastia)

1972 George Green - ret (CTC)
Overall winner of Round Scotland Race.
This was the only race Miss Impact (ex-Melodrama) entered.Where is that boat now?

1979 Colin Gervaise Brazier - ret (Needles & CTC).This could have been his first foray into offshore.Boat was painted light blue from memory.

Another piece of historic trivia, and corkheads will probably know this, but on route from Ryde to Bembridge I noticed a village fete banner with Daily Express Aug 25th on the back.It could well have been the banner for the 1973 race that was hung up on the winners finishing barge.Couldn`t stop to investigate as I was on route to a funeral!

Snoopy spent a few years in Guernsey early eightees, was fitted with a 260 5.7 mercruiser.

I did quite a lot of work on the boat and took it out in normal Guernsey conditions.

Fantastic hull.

Other boats around at the time were Super Rider a 21fy tiger shark owned by Graham Piaulx and a splattering of the Lancer Corniche boats

Yes it was Gerve's first offshore boat, I put a 454 big block in it, light blue was the colour and called Berger Paints, was it in 1979 (that long ago) you have a very good memory. !!!

Snoopy

Good to see that an oldie is still in use and could prove confusing when the original Souter/Woodnuts SNOOPY/Prawn Cocktail based on Telstars hull is launched later this month after restoration...

PS. an unusual Magnum design, wasn't the entry from Brazil, Wally Franz's first foray over here the same type, maybe she is that boat? over to you Graham.

Keep them coming!

I have heard that Melodrama is lying somewhere in a south coast yard in a very rotten state but as usual no one knows where!!!

Snoopy comments

So that`s where you were caught by the gills,Jim,to serve a lifetime of replacing rivets and locating sponson bolts on Gerve`s cat.A good character building exercise,in between getting hosed down in that rear gunners seat when racing.

I thought Wally Franz only pitched up in 1975 in Pangare Gringo the 38ft Bertram.Snoopy is a Magnum 27 with a coachroof on.Are we going in the wrong tunnel here Mike.

I think it's called a sedan (27 or 28.. not sure which) in the states and is the factory cabin version. Several were supplied to US Customs and the Coastguard.

The full advertisement for Snoopy can be found here: http://www.aaamarine.co.uk/

Thanks for posting, Graham.

Graham you have such a good memory I was there at the time and I can't remember what happened, and as I always said to Don Shead his boats were a great design, but he always relied on others to make them work.

Pira Pita

1972,Juan Taylor an Argentinian,J.Wynne designed 28 footer.2 x Volvo = 460hp.This was in the days when Dick Kreiger ran the Argentine offshore scene. We designed a motor yacht for him to cruise the South American rivers, with the special requirement of putting skegs in front of the props so the crocs would bounce off!

Pira Pita clone

Wynne did the Formula and Donzi for Aronow,Schoell did the Magnum,Cary/Cigarette for Aronow,so the Aronow theme is in there. The Pira Pita hull does look Donzi like, whilst the coachroof looks Magnum like. You`ll never know the true story. Now where have I heard that before Mr.Levi.

This Is Snoopy

I notice that several people have taken a recent interest in my welfare. I am pleased to report that I am indeed "alive and well" and enjoying my retirement on the Isle of Wight. My current carer has been keeping me warm through the winters and clean and polished through the summers for the last 9 years. He has maintained my engine and I recently fired it up just to prove that it was still in perfect working order. I have a healthy bark and he assures me that this is normal. I may well get to wet my bottom during August if the weather stays fine. Like myself, my carer isn't getting any younger and we both enjoy a cruise in the Solent when it is not too rough.

I am currently seeking a new carer and anyone with £15,000 to spare can take his place at any time in the near future. I should mention that I am sitting comfortably on a nice new four wheeled trailer, kindly purchased for me a year or so ago. So I am ready to roll at a moment's notice.

Will have to go now as I need another nap.

Bye Bye All [/COLOR]

Looking through AAA Marine's Brokerage site (http://www.aaamarine.co.uk/view.asp?...&idProduct=691) I noticed Snoopy still advertised....

Now, if I wasn't already heavily committed....

C'mon someone! Would be great to see her in August
