Just be grateful to have been there at all! Some of us couldn't be!! And to miss Uno Embassy winning!!!! AARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!! Congrats to everybody from the organisors to competitors et al. These days to get 8 boats across the start line is an achievement in itself - good to know that there are folks out there with enough passion and desire to get to the race and take part.

Congratulations to all the Racers and the UKOBA committee for a great race, Anvil point was a great place to watch a large part of the course, I got a few good photo's and will forward these as soon as I can!
Thanks for letting me get involved, it was interesting to see another clubs racing, and the hospitality was much appreciated.
Good luck for the next season.

It was a great excuse to go to Weymouth so I must say well done to all those that organised and took part and to the sun gods for the supply of the sunny stuff great to see a few pics thanks ff did not take a camera other than mobile as I had figured looking at the course it was all going to be to far away from the shore, so a big pair of bins were the order of the day ...

unfortunately my giant carnation did not flush out Delta28, must have been the aftershave however I did meet some nice folks supporting Vee and a rather large group of friendly people up from Torquay supporting Blastoff who even offered to take me to see the Fountain and crew at Portland marina which would of been fantastic but unfortunatly I had to get back to Poole ... But many thanks for the offer much appreciated

On me Lunch Break -

South Coast Marathon Race Report

Left Drivers at 6.05 and pulled up at Portland about 7.30, Dave was on the Pontoon with 400l of 97 Octane fuel... nice, 20 minutes later 320l had been wacked in & we were full again

Off to briefing to see who had made it.

10.00 we left the Pontoon and made our way out to the muster area, completed a quick blast past the beach and re mustered, this was one of the strangest starts we have had this year, somebody (We know who you are...Lol).... on the back of the boat signalled us to move further across to their Port side, we all turned round to motor that way when...... the hare started to run..... I'd guessed this would happen and was ready as the green flag went up there was only 2 boats within 50 metres of the boat...... anyway..... after swerving round the 100 sail boats racing 200mtres from our start position we were off.

The sea state was about 1m, after the second mark we ducked in and ran 50ft off the coast where it was flat calm & missed the 'race'..... got in to Poole bay & the sea state worsened to about 1.5m - 2m, we put the tabs down, tucked the drives in and went throught at about 75mph, spotted the 'Unwins' half way across who gave us a wave, rounded Fairway and started our way back, we could not see anyone in second at this point so we eased off to 65mph & started to cruise back, as the water flattened we tickled it back up to 85 mph ..... then just before the shambles turn, we smelt oil & lost the drive in about 5 seconds!!!. quick confirmation by Dave told us that the breather pipe had come out of the BAM gearbox & we had lost some of the oil, this lead to the clutch plates burning up in the forward gear. Once at the pontoon we found the breather in the bildge and it was clear that it should be a 'sweated' fit.... when actually you could push it in with your fingers..... silicon around the pipe showed us that this had happened before and a pretty crappy band aid solution was holding all together. SCS crash boxes orderd within the hour (Thankyou Outerlimits) ... get rid of all clutches!!!and will be fitted in time for Coniston hopefully

We will be back !!

Portland Marina is a great place for holding a race with superb facilities, Congrats to UKOBA.... & we appreciated the offer to be scrutineered on the Sunday... Ta

Dean

Great event

Would like to say what a great venue Portland is ,watched from a great vantage point next to the young offenders place .Yes the boats could have been in a bit closer but the fantastic sound that echoed across the bay made up for that.

we all had a great time ..fantastic venue thought the course was really good we enjoyed both rough seas flat seas, and some really mixed up seas especially across poole bay to and from the needles...thanks everyone for making it all work..............if only the ferry back to the iow was as quick..

Lordy, youv`e been in the states too long Dean, picking up the habit of wild estimates.
50ft indeed. We watched you round the 2nd mark and head more inshore than the rhumb line until you were out in Poole Bay,and the nearest to land was Anvil which I reckon was more like 300ft min.If you were 50ft I would be using a standard lens, not my 750mm telephoto. You love winding us up.Admittedly you were the nearest and dragged a couple more with you until people rumbled there wasn`t much to gain and went back to the rhumb line at about 2,000ft on 2nd lap,but thanks for the report, always good to read em.

Dean, it was only 97 sail boats and Mr. Herring said "Drop the Flag" and then continues to slap one of the Doctors in the face with the green flag

Jeez did that stuff reek... Must've run 2 miles before i was clear of it!

Sorry cfun.. Arrived about 09.50 hrs having been caught-up in traffic, went to the marina to have a nose and got told by Mr Fiddy that the timekeeper's boat was leaving any moment, did i want to be on it?!

..Is a bear Catholic? ..Does the Pope *@%# in the woods?!!... never could get those sayings right...

So I spent the day on the water... which was nice...

Downside was having to stay until the last boat finished (bless 'em though.. they did well) so i missed the immediate post-race celebrations. Plus my camera just wasn't up to the mark for any distance work. ..You can tell what's coming, can't you..! Apologies for the pictures!!

More pre-race piccies

My thanks to Kim and family for their generous hospitality aboard... and to Denise who I sort-of helped with the timekeeping (if yelling-out as a boat crossed the line counts as helping... it didn't help my photography)

They're off! ..So are the boats...

The start all happened rather suddenly(!)

...again, bit busy! You can see in the first one "what might have been" if I'd set the camera to sequence...

Just a bit premature there... musta bin the excitement.
