Rb08

As Boatmad originally got behind the RB08 almost eleven months ago and the majority of competitors have come from this site, I think it is important that I detail the latest developments here.

At a meeting on Saturday 15th at John Caulcutt's house in Hampshire some 70
entrants and competitors, who have paid their deposits, attended a drivers briefing to discuss the future of the RB08. Tim Powel and RAY Bulman, two pillars of the powerboat scene for over forty years, also attended.

A full presentation was given describing in detail that logistically everything was in place for the event to run. A full discussion took place by everyone and details worked out as to how the race could be underpinned financially by the competitors, this was put to the vote and agreed.

There was much clapping and cheering by the crews and it's the first powerboat meeting that I have ever been to where virtually everyone agreed on the outcome and were determined that this huge historical race should take place.

A new executive committee to assist me in the run up to the event was voted in by the competitors. They are: Neil McGrigor, Peter Hewitt, Alan Goodwin, Richard Knowles and John Puddifoot. All competing in the RB08 themselves. I am very grateful for their assistance.

The RB08 is now on and a GO!

We will continue our search for sponsor support at all levels.
ML.

If Fabio intends to use a 20 year old Cesa 1882 for RB08, are the engines going to be 20 years old. If not, why not. If they are not, we could all go out and buy a 20 year old boat and put the latest engine of our choice in. It is like buying a Model T Ford and putting a Chevy big block in it and entering into the London-Brighton rally and coming first. Surely if you are entering into an historic class, the boat AND engine should be historic!! As the British say - "It is simply not cricket"!

Well, as usual, it's my fault basically, as far as I was concerned when writing the rules a classic boat was something like a Fairey Huntsman and I used the COPOC formulae for the race. "The boat has to be of a design of over 20 odd years old". Of course, as it has turned out, as there is no engine cc limitation or top speed limitation there is a huge gaping hole which Fabio has spotted. My eyes were on other balls that needed juggling and never thought in my wildest dreams that this one would come back and sock us, which it has.

I have to say that I have only been told by Fabio that he does intend to run that boat in the clasic class. It has not been put in writing, as yet. As I said at the meeting, we will probably have to do something about this, it is being looked at as we speak but what the solution will be I have no idea right now. Too many other things soaking up our time and there is not too much time left to iron out the wrinkles that need sorting. Especially as the course has just had to be changed!!!

Thats an English expression, can you imagine a Welsh man or Scotsman saying that? Try it with the respective accent and you will see what i mean.

"It's just simply not Cricket old boy".

A) Its not cricket Boyo! Is it?

B) Esnar cricket my ole chumb.

C) Yar hootny ootney McCricket yer see's you jimmy.

D) Its just not Cricket Old Boy.

One of the above is the correct English pronunciation. Which one is it? can you guess?

This could be used as a test for immigration.

Why don't you just tell him that he can't. I'm sure most peoples perception of a classic boat is boat and motors of a similar age.

I *think* the Seateks came on the scene in '88, so would be eligable.

scrubbing the 40knt upper limit was the problem. maybe you just have to re introduce it. it was there in the earlyer version of the rules.

Yeh, but telling him he can't aint on if the boat complies with the rules.
And changing the rules again to disadvantage or exclude him seems not on as well - doing that and it might as well be P1 vs Mike & Jackie.

Ah, sympathy at last. Because that's the quandry. What did Kipling say?
"If you can keep your head when all about you ................".

Never mind Kipling, this is the correct version:

If you can keep your head about you when all about you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation.
