Lancer Corniche Express
I have just bought a Lancer Corniche 33 Express. Judging by its condition it could have been the one under Lyme Bay-nah, its not that bad.
You know how it happens - you see it in a field - fall in love - then explain it to the wife when you get home 'honest dear its a classic'
If anyone has any pics, performance figures, specs, any info at all I would be gratefull.

I can remember as a kid, the Corniche Express advert in Motor Boat & Yachting used to be a full inside back page jobbie, much like Scumsucker are today. They even had all the Bikini clad tarts all over them.
They were the days.
Graham Stevens has just sent me a DVD of the 1976 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes event, in which a Lancer C-E features.
Also, an amazing piece of footage of 'Blitz' hooking in the most violent way I've ever seen, chucking the driver out (who died) and the driverless boat runs up the beach/rocks flat out!..nice.
I'll host it on here at the weekend.

The base hull came from a boat called "Ivory Coast Express" tripple or quad OB's sank in Lyme bay during the race and was recovered later by the royal navy. would you reckon the motors were fekked.......
Hull was sold on and versions with a ******** "Improved " design were made and run in the London Monte-Carlo race. That was around 73-74 ish Alfie Bullen ran one called "Conserve or Perish" Navy ran a team cant remember what that was called, think that went on to be renamed "Canicometoo"
Cruiser virsion appeared shortly after with a different deck and modified freeboard. a volia the Cornice Express was born

Nope thats a new one on me... where is it?
I have only come accross a handfull of Lancer Corniche's, only example ive seen in good working order (UK) is in Scotland, it was for sale not long ago with a couple of Diesels but looked a little under powered.
I was in touch with the owner who was going to give me more info on these but he has since gone quiet, I will try him again.
Cheers
Guy.

Lancer Corniche Express
Hi there & thanks for all your responses.
The one I got used to belong to Peter DeSavory I'm told by the guy I bought it from who was a friend of his. The boat has lived most of its life in Falmouth or laid up in a barn near Redruth.
On quick inspection it appears to be original with two very thirsty looking petrol V8s on pre-alpha legs. It was originally red with cream antislip panels on decks but has since been trowelled white (even the stainless steel).
I have seen 4 others advertised by searching Google. 1 'Vantage' for sale on a european web site, 2 for sale or sold by Eastern Boats, Scarlet Lady for £8000 & a dark hulled one with davits(not very helpfull when I tried to talk to them) & 1 which I now can't find detail of as for sale but with no engines.
Nothing else known I'm afraid

Philip,
I know the one you mean.
I live 5 miles from Falmouth, the boat used to be called "pacemaker" and was the Corniche that got me into Corniches. I did not know DeSavory owned it, if he did and was the one that changed her colour etc then it was probably done at pendenis shipyard where he had many of his toys. When I new her she was red and sat on a mooring for years, then on the hard in a layup in falmouth, after that not seen her since (12 yr ago or so). I had thought the "scarlet lady" was the same boat as she was located in Cornwall too and similar colours to "pacemaker". Any idea where in Redruth? I work there and may be able to find something out, small county you see.
I would apreciate any more piccies you have on the boat and where is she now?
Cheers
Guy.

Lancer Corniche
Hi there Oilman
It is 'Pacemaker'
The paint job was definitely not done at Pendennis if the quality of the work is anything to go by. nothing was masked & they even painted the dirt.
The boat is inPlymouth now.
Here are a couple of pics. So far all i have managed is to wash her

I reckon they're Ford 351 Windsor motors. (351 ci, 5.7 litre) as fitted to a majority of competition ski boats when they were current, they apparently have a better flat torque curve than the chevy equivalent, so perfik for a skee bote.
They were used by both Volvo Penta, and Mercruiser in the mid 70's for a while. I think it was 1978 that they went back to the Chevrolet V8's. There was also a 5 litre (302ci) version rated at 190hp (351ci was 231hp)
The givaway is the front mounted distributor.
Chevies are at the rear of the motor.
The old inlet maniflod gasket laying in the bildge is interesting! could be the sign of some aggro!!

Nigel, I do not tink slipstream was a corniche.
The 2 other boats were Comfort !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and who dares ( which arrived back with A B full of Asian gentlemen!!!!!! and Vicount Slim owner/driver got a roasting, AB was JUST the transporter and had NOPTHING to do with the illegals...............
Comfort and Who Dares had 4 mercs on the back,
As you say the original cam from Ivory coast and they towed it all the way andd if I remember actually hit a sleeper around Durlston/St Albans head and was beached it did not sink.
